The Year My Clinic Almost Closed
Fourteen months of late reimbursements, a departing head nurse and a loan I could not service. How we got through it, and what I would do differently.
The Situation
By month ten the clinic was seeing sixty patients a day, which on paper was a success. But about 70% of them were NHIS patients and reimbursements were running four to five months behind. I had financed equipment with a bank loan whose repayments assumed sixty-day collections. My head nurse, who had held the place together, resigned to join a mission hospital.
