A closer look
In 2014 I put a third of my liquid net worth into a company because I liked the founder. Here is how I lost most of it, and the five rules I now refuse to break.
The exact seven-part checklist I use before putting money into any business - the people, the unit economics, the financing, the exit, and the questions that reveal whether a founder actually understands their numbers.
A 70-minute masterclass on the opportunities and traps specific to African capital markets: treasury instruments, listed equities, private deals, property, currency and the role of patience.

Ten things I would tell my thirty-year-old self about money, patience and the difference between investing and betting.
Kwame walks through the 2008 crisis, the 2014–15 cedi slide, the 2020 pandemic and the 2022 debt exchange - what he did each time, what he got wrong, and what stayed the same.
I'm 34, saving for a house in about five years. Most of my savings are in T-bills. Is that too conservative, or sensible given the environment?
I can't advise on your situation, but I can share how I think about it. A five-year goal with a defined amount is exactly the kind of liability that fixed income is designed for. The question I'd ask is not 'too conservative' but 'is the timing matched' - laddering maturities so nothing forces you to reinvest at a bad moment. Beyond the amount you need for the house, that's where risk assets earn their place.
